The 2014 Leprechaun Plunge for Charity will take place once again at Brunelle’s Marina in South Hadley, this Sunday, March 16th.
This is the 5th annual Leprechaun Plunge, an event which benefits 6 local and national charities, Dana Farber “Jimmy Fund”, Springfield Shriners Hospital, USO of Pioneer Valley, Neighbor’s Helping Neighbor’s South Hadley Food Pantry, Joe Kareta Scholarship Fund, South Hadley Youth Groups, raising over $200,000 to date.
Participants raise pledges for their selected charity by “plunging” into the frigid Connecticut River each March. This event is sponsored byNuvo Bank, Steve Lewis Subaru, T.J.’s Taylor Rental, Diamond RV and Americas
Oldest Brewery- YUENGLING.
The event has grown each year, attracting all ages. So many participants even began wearing costumes that a costume contest has now been added to the festivities. Prizes are awarded for top team and individual contests as well.
Also – New this year!- is the first ever Shamrock Salute Parade kicking off at 12:30 down Ferry Street to the Marina. 7 Representatives from Shriners Temples from various parts of New England. Shriners Clowns, Shirners Go Carts, Shriners Riders, The Highlanders Bag Pipers. The Holyoke Caledonians, the oldest continuously active bag piping band in North America, and the USO Color Guard will all be present.
Registration forms are available at White Wing and Center Day Spa in South Hadley, or online at www.leprechaunplunge.com. Check-in begins at 10:30 the day of the event, with the first plungers entering the water at
approximately 1 pm. There is a corned beef dinner, sponsored by Old Towne Caterers, and awards celebration that follows. Corporate sponsorships are welcome.
